Kirkinriola Primary School celebrates prestigious 'Being Well, Doing Well' award.
Kirkinriola Primary School are delighted to have been successful in achieving recognition from the Education Authority as a ‘BeingWell, Doing Well’ school.
Mrs McCaffery collected the award plaque at an event attended by the Minister of Education on Tuesday 23rd June 2026.
Mrs McCaffery has paid tribute to all the staff during the end of year Prize Giving assembly today, noting how special Kirkinriola Primary School is because the team of staff work so closely and really prioritise the wellness of all pupils.
This programme requires schools to create and provide evidence of a whole school approach to Emotional Health and Wellbeing.
At Kirkinriola Primary School we know that when pupils feel valued, happy and secure, they will reach their full potential. When children are physically and emotionally well, they will do well.
In the first two years of our programme our Wellbeing Champion, Mrs McCaffery carried out an audit of staff, pupils and community views and created and reviewed action plans that targeted areas of improvement.
With the support ofJane Magee, BWDW link officer, they developed and rolled out training and initiatives across the school. All staff at Kirkinriola Primary School completed Level 2 Trauma informed practice, Nurture and Theraplay certification and resilience training. Relax spaces and relax boxes were made available to all pupils.
A school council was developed to ensure pupil voice is present in whole school decisions and a Parent Learning Community is being formed.
Going forward, it is important that we continue to work with parents and families to ensure that we are doing everything we can to meet the needs of our pupils. Please look out for further information on how this programme will continue to develop through 2026-2027.
